Studio Gear Project Management Team
Mike Atkins, Project Coordinator/Lighting Specialist
Mike is a well-rounded member of the live event industry and has worked as a designer, programmer, technician and rigger. Mike was employed with Cirque du Soleil's production of La Nouba, and several Broadway touring shows. Before joining Studio Gear in 2011, Mike worked as a construction project manager in Green Bay, WI.
When at work, Mike really enjoys developing creative solutions to fulfill customers’ needs and visions and then working with the Studio Gear team to implement the plan, making those visions come to life.
When not at work, Mike likes playing baseball and golf, spending time with his Border Collie and Aussie and continually searching for the best brunch spot in Milwaukee.
Collin Donohue, Project Coordinator
Before starting at Studio Gear, Collin worked for the UW-Milwaukee Dance and Theater Department in various positions including technical director, sound designer, master electrician and carpenter. He also worked at the Dallas Theater Center as their sound engineer.
At Studio Gear, Collin enjoys the unique challenges that each event presents. No two jobs are ever the same and require their own approach to best suit the needs of the client. He also enjoys working in an industry that is constantly evolving and growing with new technologies and applications.
When not at Studio Gear, Collin enjoys spending time with his two children and wife, cooking, and whenever possible hitting the slopes to do some snowboarding.
John McDonald, Manager, Madison Office
John is a 2006 graduate of UW-Whitewater with a degree in Theater and minor in Environmental Studies. He worked as an assistant technical director at both The Prairie School and Shorewood High School before coming to Studio Gear.
One of the best parts of John’s job is how it differs from day to day and no two days have ever been the same.
For fun, John likes boating and traveling to New England to visit his family.
Liam O'Callaghan, Project Coordinator
Liam’s degree in Technical Theatre from Marquette University allowed him to be an intricate member of over 23 production teams, including sound and lighting designer as well as technical director at Marquette. After Marquette, Liam worked for two years at ACME Production Services as the lead event technician before joining the team at Studio Gear.
Liam loves that every week involves a different client, in a different venue with a different list of challenges. For him, it's exciting to consistently succeed despite completely inconsistent environments.
Outside of work, Liam spends as much time with his wife, son, and daughter as he can, so their hobbies are his hobbies. It would not be unusual to find him sewing something simple with his wife or reading books and running outside with his energetic kids. Recently, Liam was introduced to the exciting world of antique tape measure collecting; he finds it to be a refreshing change of pace from the world of Studio Gear.
Derek Wadina, Manager, Milwaukee Office
Derek started working at Studio Gear knowing little of how live productions work. But 20 years later he has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the industry. During his time at Studio Gear, Derek has worked very hard to reflect what the owners stand for to the clients.
Derek’s favorite aspect of his job is the people he works with. He feels there is no greater team of talented co-workers in the business.
When not at Studio Gear, Derek likes to golf, spend time with his kids, and check out the latest movies.
